- Hoffman spent a thrilling week in Spokane. He made new friends for the campaign at a meet-and-greet sponsored by the local chapter of Socialist Alternative on Sat., April 14. The next day, Steve and volunteers Chris and Jared attended the rally against alt-righter Joey Gibson (who was a no-show). In a photo caption, the Spokesman-Review quoted Steve’s opinion that Gibson canceled because he was “spooked by all the opposition he’s getting, and he’s finding out that Spokane is not such a fertile recruiting ground for his far-right extremist views.’”
- Back in Seattle by Mon., April 16, Steve kept on trucking. Tuesday night he was honored to receive the endorsement of the Puget Sound Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists!
- Volunteers are speeding the filing fee petition drive to the finish line. We are collecting signatures in lieu of the onerous $1,740 filing fee to put Steve’s name on the ballot. We need 1,740 names of registered voters by May 13, so our goal is to collect 2,500. That will give Advocates for Hoffman a good cushion to assure validation by the Secretary of State’s office in Olympia. To date we have a whopping 2,148!
If you have any petitions with signatures, please be sure they arrive at New Freeway Hall by Sat., May 12, for the final count. Mail or hand deliver them to 5018 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98118. Blank forms are available here, or we can send them to you.
Upcoming: On Tues., April 24, Steve will attend an open meeting of Organized Workers for Labor Solidarity (OWLS), which will feature a report-back from attendees of the national Labor Notes conference. OWLS will also discuss what to do about an upcoming Washington Policy Council (WPC) event in May. The anti-union WPC is featuring Mark Janus, of the Janus vs. AFSCME case now before the U.S. Supreme Court, at their “Solutions Summit” in Bellevue, Wash. The OWLS meeting is 7:30 p.m. at the Seattle Labor Temple, Hall 6.
Doting on donations: Great news! We can now accept donations online! If you prefer the electronic method of giving, just click here to help Hoffman heat up this Senate race. We always take checks too. Make them payable to Advocates for Hoffman, and mail to 5018 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98118.
Many thanks to our donors so far! This week we ordered thousands of color postcards. These dazzling handouts will help get Steve’s message out farther and wider. After Thurs., April 26, stop by headquarters to pick up a bundle, or call and we’ll put some in the mail for you to distribute.
